Rabat - In response to recent international concerns about the sale of biscuits containing drugs, Moroccan food safety authorities clarified that no such products have been imported or marketed within the country.
The statement comes in the wake of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety’s ban on “gluten-free chocolate chip cookies” from the French brand “Gerble,” which were found to contain illicit substances.
The Spanish Agency for Food Safety’s decision to prohibit the sale and promotion of the “Gerble” biscuits has raised questions about similar products in other regions, including Morocco.
However, the National Office for Food Safety in Morocco confirmed that upon receiving notifications from French authorities regarding shipments of said biscuits, they promptly initiated their own thorough investigations.
The investigations revealed that no shipment of the cookies from the brand has entered Moroccan markets.
“The National Office for Food Safety takes the matter of food safety extremely seriously, and we maintain stringent measures to control and monitor all imported food products,” stated a spokesperson from the office.
“Any products found to be non-compliant with health standards are promptly returned to their country of origin, and their introduction into Moroccan markets is strictly prohibited,” the statement added.
