As part of the Theyyam festival, the people gathered had lunch and soon were affected by food poisoning. Later into the evening, the people started getting uncomfortable and started to experience drowsiness.All were admitted to the hospital immediately. All of the affected people consumed food from a Theyyam event conducted in Pungamchal in Kasaragod. It is assumed that this food caused the tragedy. However, the people undergoing treatment have only minor issues to worry about and are mostly stable.
