R Ramesh Babu, the district food safety officer said that a complaint was received about the presence of a dead lizard in a cup of ice cream served on Friday. A photograph of the substandard food product was also shared with the officials. On Friday night, an inspection was carried out by the department officials in the ice cream shop situated near Teppakulam in the Main guard gate area. Officials said that they found the outlet unhygienic during the inspection. Two samples of eatables were collected for lab examination. Based on the outcome, the department would initiate legal action. The district food safety department urged the public who have experienced food adulteration and substandard quality of food to lodge complaints at 99449-59595.
