Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan said on Thursday that the vision of the food processing industry must extend beyond the national boundaries.
Delivering the convocation address at the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management, Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T), here, Mr. Chirag said that despite being a global leader in food production, India exported only a fraction of its agriculture output.
This gap, Mr. Chirag pointed out, presented an immense opportunity to the industry whose role was not just to increase the production but also to minimise waste and add nutritional value to the products.
Calling upon the graduates to imagine a future wherein every dinning table in the world had at least one food product made in India, he exhorted them to have this as their mission.
Listing steps taken by the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industry to meet the evolving demands, Mr. Chirag said the government’s efforts could bear fruit only with bold ideas and fearless execution from the industry. “This is where the graduates of NIFTEM come in as their expertise will ensure the required transformation in the industry,” he added.
R.S. Sodhi, Chairman, Board of Governors, NFTEM-T, and V. Palanimuthu, Director, participated in the convocation ceremony in which 90 students received their degrees.
