The GHMC food safety wing visited on January 14 to collect samples, finding the eatery closed. “One patient was diagnosed with salmonella infection. Tests for others were initiated,” food safety officer of Alwal, Bomma Laxmikanth told TOI.
“There was no scope to collect the sample as the hotel remained closed since the day of food poisoning,” he added.
GHMC suspended the license on January 15 and issued a show cause notice for hotel closure on January 17. Surprisingly, some loyal customers were among the food poisoning cases, with three patients still undergoing treatment while 14 patients have been discharged.
