Speaking to Kashmir Observer, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar, Yameen Ul Nabi, stressed the importance of consumer awareness and vigilance in ensuring food safety. “Consumers should inform us on the helpline number 104 in case of any complaints. It is essential to check the manufacturing and expiry date before purchasing any packaged food product,” he said.
He further advised consumers to use their sensory observations while purchasing raw food items. “If someone is buying fish, they should check its freshness. Similarly, when purchasing snacks, they should ensure no harmful coloring agents are used. People must trust their sense of smell and taste to detect if a product is substandard,” he added.
