In a statement, Jeyaseelan said that food safety department officials are carrying out inspections to ascertain adulteration in the milk. In the past three months, the officials during the inspection at Virudhunagar, Aruppukottai, Sivakasi, Srivilliputhur and Rajapalayam, had collected 19 samples of milk. After testing, the officials found out that eight samples of milk were of poor quality with adulteration. Apart from imposing fines, steps are underway to initiate civil and criminal proceedings against the vendor
The collector said that all the milk vendors in the district should have registered or obtained a licence from the food safety department.
The vendors should ensure that milk which is sold should be of good quality and free from adulteration using water, starch and urea. He said that the inspection will be continued and stringent action would be initiated against people if they are found selling the milk without proper registration/licence or with adulteration, warned the collector
